Gnossienne

The engraved woodcuts – Japanese prints – follow on from my three-dimensional work in wood.
In this musical series, I took my visual inspiration from my wooden piece Gnossienne, and my musical inspiration from Erik Satie’s Gnossienne 4 and, above all, Stefano Faggioni’s Gnossienne. Excerpts from their scores appear in some of my prints.
In Résonance avec Gnossienne, I worked to the rhythm of the melody, printing as I carved the shapes into the wood, in a formal and chromatic crescendo, so as to form a visual melody.
