Lausanne Jardins 2024 - Entre l'eau et nous

Paysages disparus :
les îles Forel

This series of prints is linked to Paysages disparus: les îles Forel, a project carried out as part of the Lausanne Jardins 24 event on the theme of water. The aim is to raise public awareness of the renaturation of the shores of Lake Geneva and to help people understand how planting can create habitats to bring back extinct species. These prints are mainly composed of shapes combining leaves and fish, as a call to also express what is happening underwater – the return of extinct fish. These organic shapes also evoke water: drops or tears.

Shallow waters are some of the most important habitats on Earth, hosting biodiversity-rich ecosystems at the point where the water meets the land. Once abundant between Lake Geneva and Lausanne, these wetlands have all but disappeared under the relentless march of urban sprawl. As the world grapples with biodiversity and climate crises on every front, this garden prompts us to reflect on rewilding practices that serve the interests of both nature and humanity.
