Strolling through towns

Perceiving the glimmers of light beneath our feet
Sometimes we do not see everyday objects because they are so close to us. This is the case with urban elements such as manhole covers and wrought iron grilles. My work reveals our everyday lives through a back-and-forth between frottage and wood engraving. The volute grilles I encounter along my path evoke infinity, waves, spirals and question marks. Can grilles become openings ?

Walking through Berlin, Lyon, Locarno, Manila, Lausanne, Helsinki, Porrentruy…
Following the circles
Spotting a manhole cover and stopping to look at it
Revealing its unique features through frottage
Appreciating its geometry, shapes and roughness
And allowing ourselves to be surprised

Explore the urban space through these calls from the ground
Whether near or far, make them interact and connect
Let them talk to us
How do they speak to our imagination?
Detect a dome there, beneath our feet

Then engrave them in wood
Transform them into prints like an alchemist
In an artistic journey
A dreamlike adventure
